Sand mining - Dredge

                 

Dredged material is combined with water and pumped through Cyclones

to separate heavy metals (Rutile, Titanium & Zircon) for use in both the

Medical and Industrial fields (Joint replacement or Paint manufacture)

                                                               

A dredge like this was used to clear Tilligerry Habitat in the 1960's

               

There was little rehabilitation done by mining companies afterwards   

Sand Extraction occurred at  Oyster Cove               
               
Sand was trucked to Salt Ash then to Sydney for glass making - 

mostly beer bottles  (which were not made using recycled glass)             
           
Rehabilitation of that area was required

A long road to rehabilitation continues with too many people involved to mention along the way. Special mention does however go to  Darryll and Matt for the start they made in the early days that made all the rest possible.

Our volunteers really are a marvelous lot who are leaving behind a priceless heritage for future generations. An example to the young and hopefully an inspiration for them to take over the care of our planet and to stand up for our planet.
